Stellenrust Family Vineyards
From: Stellenbosch, South Africa
Background
Fourth-generation growers farming old-vine Chenin Blanc on decomposed granite, with one of the Cape's most respected ethical-labour records.
Stellenrust is a fourth-generation family estate in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch, where the mantle passed from father to son and the vineyards grew older with every handover. Today the farm guards some of the Cape's most treasured old bush vines, Chenin Blanc planted as far back as the 1960s on decomposed granite that drains fast and ripens slowly.
What sets Stellenrust apart is not only the age of its vines but the way the estate treats the people who tend them. With WIETA and IPW certification and one of the most respected ethical-labour records in the Cape, the family has long argued that great wine and fair farming are inseparable.
In the cellar the approach is deliberately quiet: native fermentations, gentle handling and a preference for texture over make-up. The result is Chenin Blanc of real depth and a range of reds that speak clearly of Stellenbosch granite.
